Stan passed (on the second try!) his Class B license exam in 1949 in Boston, Mass., and was issued the call W1SCF. He passed his Class A exam the next year. In 1957, he moved to Rochester, N. Y., and, on applying for [the then required] modification received the call K2SSB (the Advanced Class version of an expired Novice Class call). (At the time, he operated only CW, using a “home-brew” transmitter.) He passed his Extra Class exam at the 1978 Rochester Hamfest. Although he was eligible for a “two letter” call, naturally he chose to keep the call K2SSB. Likewise, he retained it upon moving to Charlottesville in 1997. He is a past president and Life Member of Rochester Amateur Radio Association and a past president of Albemarle Amateur Radio Club. An ARRL member since 1946, he is a Life Member. He is active chiefly on two meters, although he enters the Sweepstakes each fall and the Virginia QSO Party each spring. He joined QCWA in 2001; in 2010, he became Chapter 155 President.

Bill was first licensed in 1952 as a Novice with the call WN2LRA. He upgraded to General Class a year later, losing the ‘N’. He was an avid home-brewer using war surplus parts garnered from Cortland Street, a short subway ride from his Brooklyn, N. Y. home. His ham activities faded away during family-raising years following graduate school, but were jolted back front and center when his career path took him to Silicon Valley, a mecca for home-brewers and a hotbed of ham activity. Bill renewed his lapsed license as AD6JV in 1999. He moved to Albemarle County in 2002 and joined Albemarle Amateur Radio Club, of which he served on the Board of Directors for several years and is currently chairman of its Education Committee. He has been Emergency Coordinator for Albemarle County. He became Chapter 155 Vice-President in 2010.

Jim was first licensed in 1958 in Eagle Rock, Va. He moved to the Washington D. C. area in 1961 to attend technical school (CREI). He stayed in the Md./D. C. area for 46 years, working for Defense Electronics, NASA GSFC) and NBS/NIST. He moved to Charlottesville in 2007. He is Technical Director of the Albemarle Amateur Radio Club and Trustee of its repeaters, WA4TFZ and W4DO. He joined ARRL in 1959 and is a Life Member. He joined QCWA in 2005 and became QCWA Chapter 155 Secretary/Treasurer in 2010.
